I knew it would happen eventually, but not quite like this...

Cole figured out how to climb out of his crib at 18 months old. I fully expected that Garrett and Landon would figure it out around that age as well. But 18 months came and went...they still had no clue how to climb out of the crib. Or perhaps the best part, is that they still hadn't realized that it was a possibility. When they were ready to get up, they'd usually just wait for one of us to come get them. Or Landon would yell "ma" louder and louder until I finally came into his room.

Then 20 months came and went....still nothing. No attempts to climb out of the cribs. I used to be envious of those moms who still had their children sleeping in their cribs until the age of 3! Now I was starting to have hopes that these little guys would be in their cribs until I was ready to transition them, not when they were ready (which would inevitably be waaaayyyyy before I was ready).

This morning, Tim woke me up and said, "you have to see this". I walked into Garrett and Landon's room and saw Landon standing in Garrett's crib. I said, "yeah, so?" and Tim said, "I didn't put him in Garrett's crib". That's when I noticed that the lamp was knocked over on the changing table and everything else that had been on the table was knocked off onto the floor. All we could figure is that Landon finally figured out how to climb out of his crib but instead of jumping down from the changing table and trying to run out of his room, he crawled over to his brother's crib and probably woke him up. I can only imagine the look of fright on Garrett's face when he awoke to his brother jumping on top of him in his crib. But what kid, in his right mind, wouldn't try to spring himself free after successfully attempting to break out of his crib?! Why not come running out of the room and wander around the house aimlessly? Why not go into Mom and Dad's room and wake us up with a "hahahahaha, look at me, you suckers"? Here's a short video I got of it:

Thankfully, Landon wasn't hurt but he was pretty darn proud of himself, as you can clearly see. Instead of considering transitioning him to a toddler bed, we figured we'll just move his crib over to the other wall and move the changing table to the other side of the room so he'll have no access to anything to climb onto. Hopefully that'll work. If not, guess it's time to break out the toddler bed....I'm so not ready for that.

That is so cute! My son has already figured out how to climb onto the changing table but fixing it wasn't that easy we had to actually take the crib apart (it was connected!)

Braden was an escapee at 18 months, but Mackenzie only tried once, and landed on the floor on her back. She never tried again. She's 3 now, and would STILL be in her crib if her brother hadn't destroyed it a month ago!
(don't hate me!:P )

That is funny! So he crawled across the changing table to get to the crib?!?

We've never had a child figure out how to climb out of the crib as we've had to move ours into a toddler bed when they were pretty young (due to expecting next child). I've heard of babies climbing out by 12 months, though- crazy!!!

My daughter just turned two and I have been wondering if she is going to figure out how to get out any time soon, but so far so good. (knock on wood!!) I am hoping to be one of those mother's who goes until their kid is three, but like you, mine will probably be ready before than.

That was cute! Quite a surprise huh? I only had one of my girls figure out how to break free. Good luck with everything.

Helene. Helene. Helene. Two words.

CRIB TENT. Get thee to the store and get them, stat.

You'll get another year out of those cribs. Another year of peace and quiet and another year of little ones not finding their way into your room.

CRIB TENT. CRIB TENT. CRIB TENT.

Heck, I even had Austin in a crib tent. I'd put Greg in a crib tent if I thought it'd help his getting up 3 times a night to pee.

He does looks really proud! It is funny that he isn't trying to climb out again. Maybe he doesn't want you all to figure out his secrets for breaking free.

It is also very sweet that he didn't leave the room, but instead climbed into his brother's crib.

The girls haven't even attempted to do this, but we have a babygate up on their section of the upstairs just in case. Hopefully we can finish the downstairs and move into our proper bedrooms before this happens. Though I hope it never does!

ROTF! Could he possibly be any cuter? And he's so excited too!

And how many new gray hairs sprouted atop your head that morning?

Oh precious babe...doesn't your heart just drop to your tummy when you realize that things happen out of your presence? Mine walk out of his room when he should have been sleeping...nearly knocked me over with fright!

Oh my goodness, that is hilarious. What a smart little boy! I can see my two doing something similar. Hey he loves his brother!

That is so cute! I used to climb into my baby sister's crib too. I just sat there with her but of course, it freaked my mother out!

Oh I am glad he was not hurt. All my boys were out of cribs around 16 months due to necessity. My oldest refuse to sleep in a toddler bed (no idea why) so big bed it was. Then we moved and bought big beds for the twins and they slept (by choice) together in the same bed for years!

Two words. Crib tents.

Seriously, crib tents saved my sanity. (Well, almost!)

OMG that is just the cutest!

My mom told me that I once climbed out of my crib and got in bed with my older sister, proceeded to wet her bed, and then climbed back into my crib.

I am praying that Melissa and Daniel don't figure out how to climb too soon!!!

I'm waiting for this to happen in our house. Any day now... Your kids are so cute. That was very smart of him to climb across. I'm waiting for one of mine to just hit the floor...

That's hilarious that he went into his brothers crib! I had to take the crib away from my youngest here lately because he was a Houdini. I actually caught him on video escaping and when I realized how scary it was I bought a toddler bed right away.. lol

Too funny! My twins are 27 months and still sleeping in their cribs...I'm keeping my fingers crossed until they hit 3 years.

Ugh! I am praying, praying my boys don't figure it out. They are 17 months. Love the video. They are so cute!

I figure that if the children are alive when my husband gets home at the end of the day, I've done my job.
