Courageous or glutton for punishment?

Picture it.....Thursday afternoon....the 4th day of spring break....the kids are bored and turning the house upside down. I've got to get some order around here or I'm gonna lose my mind. It's 4:00....2 more hours until Tim comes home from work.

I heard, "Hey, who wants to paint?" and I looked around and said, "who said that?". The kids looked at me as if I had officially lost my mind....they stared at me in complete silence. I said again, "who said that?"....Cole slowly said, "Mommy, um....you said it". I did? Oh mama, I really HAVE lost my mind....what time is it....does the psych ward allow late check-ins??

Okay, really...it's not that bad. Actually, it may be a good thing. All 4 kids together in ONE place doing a STRUCTURED ACTIVITY. So what if it's paint....paint's washable. I asked myself, "Am I being courageous or am I just a glutton for punishment?". Maybe I said it outloud, I'm not sure. But the kids didn't stare at me like I had a 3rd eye in the middle of my forehead so I assumed that the thought had occurred in my head.

After they each got to do 2 paintings each, I called it quitting time. Just in time, as Cole had said, "I'm gonna paint my hands and then do my handprints" and Bella had said, "yeah, I'm gonna do my feet". Oh, too bad...we're out of time. My head was about to explode....Tim walked in the door right about then.

After dinner, Tim took the kiddos upstairs for a bath. He called down to me, "Are you coming up soon?". I shouted to him, "Yeah ...in a minute....I'm just...uh....doing....um, finishing some stuff".

And then I sat there at the dining room table all by my lonesome, finishing my "stuff".....perhaps I was a glutton for punishment but that nice, chilled glass of wine sure did make it all worth it.

I love you. You shouted out let's paint and didn't realize you said it. I'm still chuckling on that one.

I loved seeing all the kiddos sitting around the table without their shirts (or entire wardrobe?) on doing a "structured activity" as you so kindly put it! Have a great weekend!

I think I got a couple hives just at the mention of the word "paint" Oh how I long to be that mom but I can not do it. I just can't. Kudos to you though. Maybe if I drank that wine BEFORE offering to let them paint. . .

good for u for letting the kids go free with the paint. I would upgrade the wine from the "wild vines" though. LOL (What are you in college?)

Okay, I'm glad to see I wasn't the only one who made my kids strip down for things like this. LOL Your clever use of a cupcake tin is awesome, too!

Paint, playdoh and wine with fruit added are ALL desperation measures.

You need a break.

I'm so lazy, I don't want to deal with the messiness of paint. I go for the watercolors - much more stress free! I do love the use of the muffin pan. When I get brave enough I am totally stealing this idea.

LOL! Too funny! We stick to the magic paint stuff that only shows up on special paper, BUT it literally holds his interest for 2 seconds. Maybe I should try the messy stuff - figures that's what they like.

How smart were you to keep them naked while they painted?!!!

Awesome. I need to do this more, let the kids paint and drink more wine. ;)

I think maybe you have lost your mind. At least you though to strip them all down to diapers (and underoos) before the paint came out. Cuts down on the laundry, anyway.

Awww, they were toooo cute! I bet they thought you were a pretty cool mommy for letting them *cough* paint. They look like they are really into their "structured activity." Mama, you rock.

How totally fun! These are the things that your kids will remember when they are older--and if not, you can pull out the super cute pics and show them what a great mom you were and how much fun they had!

I love that they aren't wearing anything but their undies. That's is so how we roll!

Messy food, messy projects, messy anything, off with the clothes!

Good Lord, you even let the two year olds have at it?! You're a brave woman, not to mention a little off your rocker. You so deserved that glass of wine. I don't even keep paint in the house any more, washable or otherwise. For Christmas my two year old received this fabulous creation called Aquadoodle, minimizes damage to nothing. I love it. Now if I could just get them to stop grinding foodstuffs in to my bed spread...

Painting in their undies......funny. I like your blog. Thanks for stopping by my blog and thanks for the follow.

Awesome and brave! The paintings looked great though- and the kiddos happy. If you didn't have to replace any furniture or bring anyone to the ER, I'd say you have a new winning activity on your hands!

Topless is the only way we paint in this house. And usually it is an outdoor activity as well.

I figure that if the children are alive when my husband gets home at the end of the day, I've done my job.
