Friday Photo Flashback....Skiing Disaster

It's time again for Friday Photo Flashback, hosted by Alicia at More Than Words. For this fun meme, we're supposed to dig out all those old photo albums (the pics that were taken before the days of digital cameras) and scan and share them....

So this week, I'm sharing a picture from my very first time skiing....January 10, 1988. I only remember the date because it was written on the back of the picture! The guy on the far left was my boyfriend at the time (that's me standing next to him)....he left for the military right around the time I went away to college that September. I was all lonely and sad....until I met my next boyfriend the following month in the dorms at college. Nothing like a hot new boyfriend to take the pain of a broken heart away....

Anyway, enough about my chaotic love life....these were my friends who I worked with at Sizzler. Yes, Sizzler....home of the all-you-can-eat shrimp. Even though it was my 2nd real job (after my disastrous 1st real job at Burger King....yeah, I had upgraded from BK to Sizzler....yay me), we had a blast! I actually looked forward to going to work every day.

So these friends convinced me to go skiing....I had never been and honestly the idea of it freaked me out. I was sure I'd get badly injured somehow or get caught in an avalanche (that's what happens in cartoons, you know). On the drive up, I thought I was gonna puke several times just from the anxiety of it all.

I totally panicked on the ski lift and then when we got to the top, I was like, "Okay, now what do I do?" and my friend said, "Um, you ski....down the hill....come on". I had to move or that chair was gonna hit me so I headed down the slope, starting off on my feet and ending up on my ass.

Tried again...same result. Tried a 3rd time...same result. I finally gave up and told my boyfriend and friends that I'd be at the ski lodge in the gift shop waiting for them.

I haven't been skiing since.....I don't do snow.

If you need a laugh today, check out this video! Remember for Chick Chat I had mentioned that I had to do like 20 takes for what was supposed to be a 3-minute video??? I put together a video with some of the takes...the kids have really enjoyed watching it. They laugh hysterically every time they watch it! And now that it's after the fact, I can laugh about it too. But man, you can just see how tired I was getting in this video...take after take after take.....

3) Oh my gosh, the video is hilarious!!! You should join us over at Tim at Fort Thompson's for his Vlogemotion carnival! Your emotion could have been FRUSTRATION.

I would definitely try to record while the kids were all asleep. lol

Too funny! You are a much nicer Mom than me. I would have gotten really frustrated.

OMG Helene - I just adore you. This video had me laughing so hard - your expressions are priceless - especiallly that one when Bella is holding some sort of white pipe thing? You're entire face is just one big WTF?

(BTW - I hate skiing as well. I did a post about my ordeal too - they don't allow me anywhere near a ski lift anymore)

Yeah, that's what happens EVERY time the phone rings, someone comes over to visit, and basically anytime my attention is on something other than the kids. ; )

That's pretty funny how Bella is nodding her head while you're talking!

Hilarious...

I'm sure that's how I look when I'm trying to have a conversation with friends.

Love the skiing picture! Isn't it fun to look at pictures from way back when?

This video is absolutely the best. It's so funny. The faces you make. I KNOW I look like that at times when I'm trying to talk to people or talk on the phone...people say it sounds like WW3 in the background...hilarious video!!

I remember Sizzler. They just closed ours... :(

Have a great Friday! No....Have a peaceful Friday...well maybe.

That picture looks like it belongs in a ski brochure.

Ah Sizzler, so many memories....

Cute pic....

Loved the video. I could tell you were about ready to find a creative way to duct tape them to the floor. The trick is to find a way to make them enjoy it.

Well my kids are arguing about watering the plants outside.

Spencer, "Lauren!! Lauren!!"

Oiiiiii.

The ski picture is awesome!

My friends could never even get me as far as the parking lot of a ski resort. There could be one tree on the entire mountain and I'm certain my face would find it.

And thanks for the outtake video. I needed the laugh even though I'm sure that was seriously frustrating for ya!

I do not want to try that sport either.

My first time skiing was on my honeymoon. He said, "It'll be great! You'll have so much fun!"

No one told me you could fall off the end of the ski lift and end up black and blue all over ON YOUR HONEYMOON.

Man, that man owes me.

(he has made up for it since.)

Visiting from SITS. YOU HAVE A BEAUTIFUL FAMILY! What a wonderful blessing with so much fun and love within your family. I'm jealous...LOL. I shouldn't say that because after ten years God blessed me with the most perfect daughter. She has brought me so much joy in the past 16 years and I truly feel amazed and blessed that I really do have a daughter. I became a follower so I can watch your family grow...nothing is better. Bless you all!!!!

We did have a wonderful time in Asia. It is a gorgeous place full of delightfully humble people. They are polite and gracius. It was a precious experience. We praise the Lord for it.

Stop by when you can. I love to encourage MOMS in the fine art of Christian mothering. It is a holy occupation-hard to do but with endless rewards!! Blessings as you raise you up little sweet family.

I've never been skiing, I too would be terrified going down that slope. Just going ice-skating yesterday, I was convinced I was going to fall and rupture my spleen or something. I love the video, although you definitely need a nap by the end. :)

that is so funny! Loved the outtakes!
Glad no one fell out the window!!!

Hey, as far as the skiing went...you looked great, so what else really mattered :-D

that video was awesome and the reason why I did my video in my closet during nap time or mine would have looked the same way.

I love your video! You can definitely see your hands are full, but you seem to handle it so well! You should be proud of yourself!

Thanks for sharing!

I figure that if the children are alive when my husband gets home at the end of the day, I've done my job.
