Yes, it has come down to this....

I suppose I'll have to admit it at some point but I'm a fan of Miley Cyrus. No, not her personally but I'm a fan of her music. Wanna know how I know this? I've memorized every word to a couple of her newest songs "The Climb" and "Butterfly Fly Away".

I hear them in my sleep, I sing them in the shower, I hum them while I cook....the other day, as I was doing dishes and softly singing "The Climb", Bella asked, "Mommy, are you singing a Hannah Montana song?". Oh wow...."why, yes I am...I guess". I was a little embarrassed.

Shouldn't I be rocking it out to...I don't know...um, The Fray or Coldplay....or whoever's popular now? Seriously, I have no idea which bands are popular now because I never get to listen to the radio anymore...when we're in the mini-van, the kids are either watching a DVD (I have every line of Nemo and Flushed Away pretty much memorized). Or if I'm lucky enough, I may get to listen to my iPod but of course I've downloaded those two Miley Cyrus songs for Bella, after we saw the Hannah Montana movie recently, so we're always listening to those two songs if my iPod is on. Sometimes I try to sneak an Adam Ant song or something from New Edition on (yeah, I'm all over the place when it comes to music....) but then the kids quickly protest, "Awww, Mommy, we don't wanna listen to this.....".

Yesterday morning, as I was putting on my makeup and humming "Butterfly Fly Away", Bella said, "If you like Hannah Montana, Mommy, you really need to watch Camp Rock with me....you'll love it".

And I did....and I loved it. The rest of the day I was walking around singing, "Who's got what it takes to be my guy, what it takes to make me shine, what it takes to get me fired up....."

Yes, it has come down to this....I suppose I'll be watching High School Musical next and loving those songs too.

I admit, I like some of her songs too. And then I want to punch her in the face.

As soon as Alise and I saw the HM movie, I wanted to run out and get the CD! I did, a few weeks later, but pulled it off as an "early birthday present" for A! Ha! HM is okay, but I am extremely tired of watching her, Zack and Cody, and Wizards on the Disney channel, which is what Alise watches ALL WEEKEND EVERY WEEKEND!! Haven't seen Camp Rock, but have seen HSM3 with A - it was a friend's birthday party...I'm just saying!

I feel your pain honey! it's something we hate to admit & I give you major props for letting us moms, finally admit that we sewcretly love Hannah Montana..well I actually love watching the show!hahahah & the funny part is so does My hubby..one day we realized together that we were laughing at the same thing the kids we, we looked at each other awkwardly & went about our day, then found ourselves plopped on the couch watching it! I also love that's so raven, wonder why it's not on anymore? I would sing "that's so raven" all day long! LOL

That's so funny! I've been reading your story of dealing with infertility and IVF. It's inspired me to..well...be better about using birth control. lol.
Seriously though, we did IVF to conceive our twins at age 32 because of my elevated FSH (11.3 on our IVF cycle). :) Love your story. I love your sense of humor too...

*Hangs head in shame.*

I sort of like some of her songs too.

And I don't have a daughter.

Jenny said...

LOL! I don't think I've ever even heard her songs before. Luckily, my daughter has no idea who she is.

I have caught myself singing Backyardigan songs in the past and that is frightening.

I'm glad someone else does this too! I was beginning to worry that it was just me. Wait until you watch High School Musical. I loved all 3 of them. Kind of nice to be able to sit through a kids movie and enjoy watching it over and over and over.

You make me laugh. I have no idea what songs are popular now. We listen to CDs alot. Some kid stuff, some my stuff.

I'm taking my daughter to see a High School Music Play this weekend. There's a part of me that doesn't want to like to prove to myself that I was right and not letting my 6-7 year old daughter watch "that stuff". Boy, I sound old. I'm sure it will be good.

I love The Climb. Never thought I'd love a Miley song...came completely out of left field!

P.S. - I was subjected to High School Musical while sub teaching last year. And I liked it. *shudders*

I think I love you, Helene.

HAHA!

Seriously, Kacey and Thuy are continually making fun of my taste in music...saying that I am not able to move past what a 14 or 15 likes.

Oh well. We like what we like. Maybe it just keeps us young and hip? :)

Lucky for me, my daughter doesn't listen to Miley Cyrus or High School Musical. But I do get lots of iCarly & SpongeBob.

Ok I will admit it right here, I totally have The Climb on my iPod. I got it for myself and I have kids that are no where near the age of liking Hannah Montana. Oh and I watch the show too.

Man I feel so much better and I am so glad to know that I am not alone.

I love the words of The Climb...I just wish someone else sang it.

Oh, you are so lucky. My kids' influence on me is emo and screamo. Yuk.

The Goth is a big Katie Perry fan. I like her.

Because you have small children, I'm gonna let this go.

I must admit that I have totally caught myself belting out to "the climb" in my car, by myself. As soon as I realize what the hell I am doing I change the channel - quick! I do love Miranda Cosgrove though! The boys got me hooked on iCarly and they play blips of her new single and I love it! So much I went on YouTube to embed in my monday post. After children I think all of us moms can kind of relate to Stockholm Syndrome! Just another victim, I guess!

You had mentioned a really yummy sounding rib recipe on my blog a couple of weeks ago. I would love the recipe if you have the time to share :)

One more thing, I tagged you on my blog - go check it out.

No more chapters in this comment I swear, LOL!

How funny. I saw this post show up on my dashboard this morning, but didn't put the connection together that it was you who wrote it.

My kids haven't gotten into Camp Rock or Hannah Montana, but perhaps my day is coming soon...

Jennifer said...

Ahahaha! LOL! You watched "Camp Rock"!?

... wait a minute. I watched "Camp Rock" and I don't have a daughter to use as an excuse... and I suppose my Cougar Crush on Joe Jonas doesn't help me either... Yikes.

;-)

Well why should the kids have all the fun? Any music that makes you smile and sing along is great music :)

I can get into Hannah Montanah, on the Disney channel. I can even get into The Suite Life of Zack and Cody. Even my husband loves Zack and Cody, because they are mischievious twin boys. LOL!

I hope you do not mind I tagged you in something today. :)

I remember when I received a cute little outfit for my first baby. It had a couple of floppy-eared dogs on it and was really soft. The label said, Blue's Clues, which I thought was a brand of clothing. I had NO IDEA that it was a television show.

What that memory has to do with your post, I don't know . . . You enter a strange new world of music, TV, and books when you have kids.

I totally loved High School Musical. I watched it before Ie even had kids. I'm a closet 8 year old.

Mrsbear said...

It's inevitable. I've spent weeks with Spongebob songs or Backyardigans songs stuck in my head. I'm only grateful that my girls both wrinkle their noses at Hannah Montana, although my six year old keeps asking me to record High School Musical 2 for him. Oh well, maybe I should make them watch Grease instead. ;) Teen pregnancy and innuendo aside, it does have some catchy tunes.

Ok, Ok, Ok, I'll admit it ... I like that song The Climb by Miley.

I can't STAND Miley herself. But some of her music is OK.

I think I am the only person on the face of the earth that has not seen any of the High School Musicals.

Okay. I like the Disney Channel. It is safe and fun and carefree and makes me forget about what is going on in the world. I watched the new Disney movie on Saturday night, "The Princess Protection Program". It was cute - not Oscar award winning, but it was cute.

I am going out on a limb here and saying that Demi Lovato is a waaaay better actress than Miley and is supposedly the new fave amongst the young crew. :)

I guess it is time for me to start acting like a 32 year old...

Stacey said...

LOL I feel you Helene. Every time I hear "The Climb" on the radio, I shake my fist and curse Miley Cyrus for having such a darn catchy song. LOL. I also like "7 Things I Hate About You". I can't help it!! I've also fallen for the Jonas Brothers. I don't know how, either, as I don't have small children in my home!

I guess it's the kid inside us trying to stay young by keeping up with the tweens music scene. lol

I figure that if the children are alive when my husband gets home at the end of the day, I've done my job.
