Yes, my love...in fact, this does seem VERY fair....

I've mentioned before that we're in the process of "remodeling" our home. After 7 years of living here, we finally decided to paint the whole inside of our home and rip up the carpet and linoleum and replace it with wood flooring. Huge production...let me just say.

Tonight, Tim was in the process of ripping up our living room carpet so he and my stepdad can put down the wood floor tomorrow. As I sat here on the computer, watching him engage in this "hard labor", he looked at me and said, "Uh, so how is THIS fair....I'm doing this by myself while you sit on your ass reading your e-mail".

Oh no....did you just go there, my love? Yes, you did. I answered, "Well, considering I spent my entire day wiping dirty butts, wiping snotty noses, cleaning up the house before our company came over, calming crying children, playing house with Barbie dolls, making sure the kids ate at least 1 serving of something that didn't contain sugar or red dye #40, hosting a playdate *, taking the kids to another playdate, fighting with them to leave the playdate, rushing home to get dinner started (which of course they didn't bother to eat).....would you like me to continue.....Yes, my love....in fact, this does seem VERY fair".

So he quietly continued with the hard labor.....

His sense of humor returned long enough for him to say, "Wanna help me wrap my package?" I shot back with, "Yeah, just as much as I wanted to change your children's crappy diapers today...."

As he walked in front of the tv, I said, "Can you please move to the side for a minute....it's the finale of So You Think You Can Dance...I don't want to miss anything". He looked up and gave me a dirty look....I have to admit that I was giggling on the inside.

I was starting to feel bad after awhile. I mean, watching him huff and puff while moving heavy furniture, bending over to rip up the carpet and then carry the heavy carpet out to the back porch....I was plagued with guilt. Well, not a WHOLE LOT of guilt....but some guilt, nonetheless.

Then he walked upstairs and said, "I'll be back in a minute". I said, "Fine with me....I'll be able to watch my show without you walking in front of the tv". He looked back and smiled.

A few minutes later, he returned downstairs and looked at the clock. Then he asked, "How much longer is this show on?" and I said, "About 20 minutes.....sssshhhh, I don't want to miss anything....they're gonna announce the winner soon!". He stood in front of the tv, hands on his hips, and said, "JANINE IS THE WINNER.....".

That S.O.B.!! He had gone upstairs to google the winner of So You Think You Can Dance!! He totally ruined the anticipation, the excitement, the anxiety for me....that would be like me telling him who won the World Cup before he gets to watch the replay on the DVR. I've been watching this damn show all season long and this is the moment I absolutely LOVE...it's the huge payoff....to watch the last two contestants stand there, shaking and hoping, as Cat Deeley reads the winner's name. I always get a little teary-eyed as I watch the winner burst into tears....can't help myself.

Before I could say anything, he said, "Yes, in fact, NOW this does seem very fair". And he then he returned back to ripping up the carpet....

* I got to meet one of my favorite bloggers today....Francesca from 3 Bay B Chicks came over with her 2 beautiful children!! The kids had so much fun and she and I managed to squeeze in some adult conversation here and there..... when Bella wasn't interrupting, constantly wanting Francesca to play Barbie dress-up with her. Oh, and I reached 500 followers!!! It was a fantastic day....well, until Tim completely ruined it for me. Bitter, party of one.....

That job does NOT look like fun. I think I'd rather change two wiggling little boys, dirty diapers than rip up the carpet.

500 followers, woo hoo!!! :)

Googling the winner and spoiling the ending for me sounds like something that my husband would do!

Happy weekend.

Let him rip it all up by himself!
They get the breaks.. while we work 100 hours + a week.. they work a whole whopping 40..with ADULTS.
I work 40+ with adults and another 40+ with kids.. No.. he can't complain.. NO COMPARISON!

You are a whole lot calmer that I would have been! Seriously, had it been my DH, the carpet wouldn't have been the only thing being ripped up and throw in the trash that night! I admire your restraint.

On another note, cannot wait to see your new floors! I love our hardwoods - they make the home.

What a stinker!!!

We put hardwood floors in a few years back, and it is HARD work. What I liked the least about it was pulling up the linoleum...too many staples. I had blisters for days. Yes, I helped, but back then we were childless. I'd be hard pressed to help with that crap now. :)

Francesca is the best :) I'm glad you two had fun, but I'm a little disappointed that there were no photos of her dressed in full Barbie regalia. You would've gotten to 600 followers with a picture like that!

And you and your hubby are a hoot!

Girl- you've got some tension going on in your home, don't you?!?

Very exciting about the hardwood floors you'll have soon!

I love how you handle things...and the fact that you pointed out to him just "how fair life really is"...not.

That was not very kind of him to tell you the winner. I am with you, I enjoy the final's of these types of shows and I DO NOT like to have them taken away from me by someone tell me what happens before it occurs. My husband has done this to me before and I have "shared" my opinion with him so it no longer happens.

Good Luck with the hard wood floors we love having them.

What a huge job, but I know it will be worth it in the end! Make sure you post pix of the finished project!

He's just plain mean. Even more now because I still had four more shows to catch up on with my DVR and now I know the winner. Tell him thanks a lot for me. lol :) I love your blog even if I don't comment all of the time. I can't wait to see the final pictures of the floors. You are going to love hard wood. We just moved from an older house that had all hard wood into a house with carpet. I want all hardwood now too.

LMAO@everything except your hubby spoiling the winner of SYTYCD!

How cool you got to meet francesca! and that you are getting hardwoods...I told my hubby i wanted hardwoods and his reply was NOT of the new floor nature yiyiyiyi

Now why in the world insist on digging holes for themselves like that? My husband always asks me stuff like that and when I can barely contain my anger listing off all the things I've done (and have yet to do), he's always at a loss for words. Then apologizes. *sigh* Men.

That totally sounds like something my husband would have done! What a jerk move on his part, but I can't blame him too terribly much. I mean come on, You WERE pushing his buttons. LOL and the fact that you were taking pictures of him working his butt off probably didn't help either! I would have been P O'd about him ruining the results of the show but I would have thought it was hella funny later on!

Kim said...

I feel your husband's (lower back) pain. We ripped up all our old carpet upstairs when we first moved in. Only we were idiots and replaced it with new carpeting. Next time it's wood floors all the way.

Congrats on the 500! Woot!

Oh Helene I have never laughed soo hard . Your blog always makes my day. That seems like priceless revenge telling you who wins. So now I want to know what you are going to do to pay him back. lol Reading your blog I would love to know about the mention of Red dye #40 my daughter and son both are allergic but I had never heard anyone else ever say anything about it.

Oh I would have been livid! You do physical labor all day long! Thanks for the comment on my site the other day - made my day!! You mentioned you could send me some online multiple multiples thing? Is there a way to contact each other outside of commenting on your posts? Oh never mind -I think I see. Still figuring this blog stuff out.

I knew I should have stayed off the internet completely until we had finished watching the finale!
stacey had to work last night so we just started watching the finale and I decided that blogger was probably safe! I was so wrong! Oh well,I knew she was going to win anyway~!
BTW, that wasn't really nice of your husband!

Lani said...

With the exception of the ruining of the finale, I agree that was MORE than fair. Yay for new floors! I would love to see my husband engage in some hard labor:)

Oh, I so had this conversation with my husband this morning. He spent 1 1/2 hours playing with our 18 month old and you would think it was the end of the world, he was so exhausted and what was I doing, just sitting on my butt blogging!

The cheek of men!
