If you give a Mom a moment....

....she'll understand that there will always be challenges on any given day, like when her kids decided to COLOR the oranges instead of EATING them....

like when she stupidly thought attempting to potty train her 2-yr old twins would go well....

and it turned into "Mission Impossible" when the 2 yr olds watched the pee run down their legs, as they'd say "Uh-oh, Mommy".....

like when her family room was taken over by Barbie and all of Barbie's perky-breasted, small-waisted, ever-so-cheerful and beautifully groomed friends.

like when she burnt her hand on the HOT oven rack because she thought she could multi-task....you know, turn her head for just a second to yell at the kids to stop fighting....AGAIN....as she pulled a gourmet meal out of the oven, which she had lovingly prepared for her family. What??!! Bagel bites aren't considered a gourmet meal in your home? Puh-lease....who are you trying to fool?

like the one morning she was extremely giddy because there was JUST BARELY ENOUGH orange juice left for her to guzzle down. But before she could take even the smallest sip, she was called away for only a couple minutes to change a poopy diaper (of course) and as she hurried to return to her nice, chilled glass of OJ, this is what she found.....a fly in the OJ...."isn't it ironic?"

If you give a Mom a moment, she would eventually realize that there would be reasons for her to smile, like when all the kids climbed on top of the bunk bed and no one was injured or pushed off "accidentally"....

like when, at soccer practice, her daughter asked the coach if she could tell her mom something real quick....and that something was a whispered "I love you, Mommy" in her Mommy's ear along with a wet, sweaty kiss on the cheek.

like the huge smile on her son's face when she presented him with the "practice run" dinosaur cake she had made just for him

and, lastly, when she announced to her husband that she had gotten her money's worth when she bought a Halloween decoration at Target that could be left up ALL YEAR ROUND.

That's what happens when you give a Mom a moment....she'll use that time to reflect on what went down during the week and she'll smile as she recalls both the good times and the bad times.

And then she'll take another moment to thank God for the 4 little blessings in her life because she couldn't imagine her life any other way.

This post was inspired by Mama Kat's Writer's Workshop.....be sure to stop by her blog and check it out (after you leave a comment here, of course....because you were going to leave a comment, right? RIGHT?!)

That was sweet! It brought a tear to my eyes! At times we tend to forget the bittersweet moments and remmeber only the bad!
Your children are beautiful!!!

Isn't it wonderful to be able to focus on the good things that happened during the week instead of dwelling on the bad? Enjoying life's little moments make the bad moments seem a little less frustrating, to me anyway. Enjoy the rest of your week with your twin blessings.

Very cute post! Love the sign! I need to get one :-)

I wonder if they coloured on the oranges because they wanted purples instead? Maybe purples taste sweeter than oranges?

Ouch! Nasty blister! In our house anything that comes out of the oven un-charred is gourmet!!

Ha! My webmaster thought I should have used the domain name Amyasylum. Now I wish I had! Maybe I could get it on a sign like yours.

Fly in the OJ! Classic! Colored orange slices? Why not?

This is the best post! The part about your daughter stopping soccer practice to tell you she loved you and gave you a kiss brought tears to my eyes because it was so sweet. That's definitely a moment that makes everything worth it.

(Except maybe potty training. That just sucks.)

Great post Helene.

See, now when I walk away from a tasty drink that we don't have any more of, it's usually my kids that have claimed the drink rather than a fly.

It's a black fly in your Oooooh Jaaaay. Isn't it ironic, don'tcha think? I'll be singing that all day.

Great post. The good, the bad, the potty training. Your contemplations don't make me want to jump in to in any sooner, even though mine will be 3 in December. You mean I can't send him to grade school in a diaper? Sigh.

I love it!! What a great post! I especially love the sign ;) I'll have to get one of those!

Love it! It's been awhile since I've done much blogging reading, but I've finally caught up on all your posts. I struggle with balance between me time and family time, too... and I only have 1! I watched my niece for 11 days and hardly looked at the computer except for a few moments on some evenings. I have a new found respect for anyone with more than one child. :) You crazy mama's! Oh, and I thought your cake was awesome! I wouldn't have even attempted that, so kudos to you!

Flory said...

Wonderful post! Starts with the bad - black fly in juice, and ends with a whisper in the ear, "I love you". That erases all the bad and then some in my book.

Vicki said...

I absolutely and totally love this! Wonderful wonderful wonderful. When my home is all pretty and nice and toy free, I will always wish for the mess and the chaos.

Jennifer said...

LOL! This post makes me so excited to potty train! ;-) Oh, about multi-tasking - just yesterday I thought the refrigerator was the microwave. Sometimes, I get so confused...

Tami said...

I love this post. It so speaks of everything a mother goes through in the week. The good and the bad. And the happy glow that comes through it all because we are mommies.

Vicki said...

Sigh, when I read this the first time, I had barely started potty training. Now I have witnessed the toddler watching the fun yellow river down the leg. I also know if I hear "I have to go potty", it means he already did.

hehehe.. I came so close to buying a sign from Michaels craft store that says "Insane Asylum-Where your nightmares are a reality"

Brenda Jean said...

Ah yes, give a mom a moment. Sometimes I just want to yell that to my kids and my husband. I have to say I like you sharing the frustrations AND the good things. I remember when I first got online many years ago I joined a couple of mom email lists and was feeling so guilty--these moms NEVER complained. Everything was perfect, they adored their kids 24/7-- no sarcasm either. It was so cool when I started meeting moms that had normal frustrations! My kids are 9, 15 and 16 now so I had lots of good and bad moments:)

Found you through SITStas, I am new on their site, and thought I'd check out the current FB. First of all I have to say that you are a brave brave woman with 2 set of twins! That is an amazing feat in itself. And secondly, You have some awesome posts! I love this one especially! It gave me the chuckle and smile that I needed after a long day as a SHAM of 3 under 5. Stop by and say hello sometime, and I will be back to visit for sure in the future!

I figure that if the children are alive when my husband gets home at the end of the day, I've done my job.
