They've taken over my computer....

The kids and I discovered awhile back that the San Diego Zoo's website features zoo animals that you can watch in REAL TIME. Any time of day, you can log on to their site and watch the Mama panda interacting with her baby, you can see the polar bears eating breakfast or swimming, you can watch the elephants eating and taking baths and then, of course, there's the apes who you can watch swing from tree to tree....or pick bugs off each other's backs (yum).

So this is what happens usually first thing in the morning, as I try to check my e-mail real quick and maybe read a couple blogs....

"Don't mind me, Mommy....I'm just gonna lay here and pout until you let me use your computer"

"We're both just gonna sit here and wait. Does that bother you?"

And next thing I know, they've completely taken over my computer.....

I must admit, though, that watching the animals in real time throughout the day is pretty cool. And it does keep the kids preoccupied when I need to use the phone or cook a meal.

But I didn't expect that I'd lose all computer privileges upon discovering this site. The tables have turned. I'm now begging them for computer time..."Come on, guys...you've been on the computer for awhile...Mommy needs to check her e-mail". They just look at me, laugh and then they go back to watching the elephants or whatever animals they were looking at.

Well, I guess it could be worse....they could be watching Yo Gabba Gabba repeatedly like they used to do, to the point where I have to lock myself in the laundry room so I don't have to hear it anymore.

If you want to check out the site, click HERE. You'll see the panda cam. If you want to see the other animals, just go up to "live cams and video" and make your choice. If you're looking for something to keep the kids occupied for a little while or you just love watching animals, check it out....

Thanks for stopping by my blog. Your boys are so so so cute. They take over fast too. My son is 6 and I ask him how to do stuff with my computer some times!
The boy scouts are great. We have only gone to 2 meetings now and my son is different already! He is more respectful and is looking for ways to help other people (maybe it is just to get the badges, belt loops and beads, but hey...it's a start). They boys start in first grade. Now the girls do daisies (young brownies) in kindergarten. It is a blast so far.

Ha ha, how funny. Loved the panda cam. My boys love animals as well. But luckily they have not discovered the internets for now at least!

I clicked, went to the sight, and Jamie got to see the Pandas sleeping. He was very excited, but instead of wanting to sit and watch it, (and yes, way better than Yo Gabba Gabba) he asked me "Do you know how to get to California? I want to see them for real."

Thanks for the great tip on the animals...... Do I dare show it to him ? ....... I might be in the same boat is I do? LOL

Don't you dare bash Yo Gabba Gabba!! We love that show around here! ;)
Great post as always, have a great day lady!!!

Thanks for the link! My daughter will love that since its gonna be too cold to go to the zoo soon. She steals my comp every morning too to play Jump Start. She has her own comp, but it is out of date for most of the websites she plays and daddy doesn't let anyone on his precious gaming comp. Yes we have 3! Lol

Oh how funny! My husband can build a computer out of scraps practically, so we have the livingroom computer, my home office computer (no one is allowed to touch and I have it passworded), his laptop, daughters laptop and even live in grandma has a computer. So really... you'd wonder why some people fight over the livingroom computer so much... Apparently the others aren't handy enough!
That online zoo thing sounds so great! I'll have to check that out!

Thanks for the link! That should keep my youngest busy for about, oh, I don't know, three minutes? (In her world that's a lifetime.)

Two years ago my husband and I did Black Friday shopping for the first time ever just so we could get two low-line laptops for the older two. They think we are the most generous parents ever to give them laptops ($250 each) for Christmas. The truth is, we are the most selfish parents here--we wanted our kids off our machines. (Since we homeschooled, computer usage around here was pretty high.)

So, since we let the youngest use the desktop, it is official: all five family members have their own computer, and I don't feel bad about it at all. :-)

Zoo sounds MUCH better than watching Yo Gabba Gabba!!!

Well now I've done it. I clicked on the link with Jason next to me. He was so excited cause he saw the panda sleeping. When I went to click away, he said, "But Mommy the panda will wake up. I want to see the panda awake."

I love this post. The boys are getting so big. Thanks for stopping by my blog.

I would have taken a reality zoo show over Barney or Dora when my kids were little!

i've seen the panda cam before, its very cool. (although i'm not a fan of how dirty the pandas look)

What an awesome site. My inlaws went to this zoo in January (they were in Cali to watch Penn State in the Rose Bowl) and brought home a cute t-shirt for Ryan. Everytime he has it on some asks if we were there and how cool this zoo is...it REALLY makes me want to catch a flight to the west coast and check it out.

Of course the cute little panda was SLEEPING when I clicked on the link. Oh well...we will have to check it out later. Or not...I am not sure if I willing to give up complete control over my laptop just yet. (totally kidding!)

OMG they're swooning! Your kids are swooning. They're good swooners. And that PandaCam is fantastic. No wonder they're swooning.

Time for Mommy to buy a new computer or two!

Thanks a lot, Helene!

Now, while I'm supposed to be working, I'm watching a panda sleep and saying "Awwwwww...."

Another computer for this house, preferrably a laptop for me, is on the top of my Christmas list. And when that happens, I will surely share that link with my children. But not until then.

How funny is that!!

We have one computer to a family of 5 -twins are only 3, but they're starting to ask to use it. LOL!

shortmama said...

I think I will keep that one a secret from the 7yo! She already is always wanting to play on my computer...I would have to get up in the middle of the night to get my fix if she new anything about a panda cam!

Shelle said...

Seriously, I know what I'd be buying them for Christman:):)

It boggles my mind how our little kids take to the computer with NO FEAR. I sacrifice a goat first before approaching my computer with trembling and with averted eyes, but the kids just run over like it's an old friend and start pounding the keyboard.

I'm such an old fart.

LOL, I always kick myself when I show Abby something on the computer. She never gives it back!

I finally just tell her that it's overheating or something. LOL!

You give in WAY too easily. Honestly.

They would had to have been lying ON the computer to get it away from me.

What a cool site! And I love the photo - pouting while lying on the kitchen counter. Too cute! And I agree watching zoo animals is way better than Yo Gabba Gabba. I can't stand that show!

Wait until they discover Webkinz (if they haven't already :-) Yo Gabba Gabba is the worst. Luckily my oldest is really into Spongebob now. My youngest is still hooked on Max & Ruby.

Oh, now you've done it! You'll be lucky to get any time on it at all now! The boys have discovered the computer, big mistake! Looks like you'll be getting one just for you one of these days. Glad I only have to share mine with my husband who doesn't spend much time on it at all!

Mighty M said...

I definitely will not show this to my daughter - she will take my computer over too! ;-)

Popping in to say hi, Helene! Can't wait to check out the animal cam- thanks for the link. Your posts are always terrific!

That is why I had to get a laptop and move the kids to the PC. And I'm ashamed to admit that the oldest has a PC in his room just for games. (No internet.)

I'm going to give them the link to that site. They will love it!

Okay..I'm gonna check out that site now for my daughter!

Very cool site! Thanks, I will have to show it to Peanut & Jelly Bean!

So cool, I blogged about it and linked back to you :)

Thanks for sharing girl! I had no idea that you could watch the animals real time! But now I think I am going to wait to share this with the boys until I get a new desktop. Yes, I am that selfish and I would never survive if they monopolized the tv and my laptop all at the same time. Besides I have a no Benji rule on my laptop after one too many mishaps that left it in a state of disrepair! ;)

Hayden always wanted my computer too and I am not a very good sharer so that is why Daddy (Jeff) bought us a new one. Now there are 2, one for Hayden and one for Mommy and Daddy is happy b/c Mommy is happy.

And hey, thats my site in the first pitcure. Love that. ;)

Thanks for the link, girl! Now there goes my comp until the laptop is outta the shop....

I figure that if the children are alive when my husband gets home at the end of the day, I've done my job.
