When you can eat good, old-fashioned styrofoam....
Why play with this cool sand/water table....
When you can play with the a/c vent....
Why climb on this awesome (not to mention EXPENSIVE) play structure in your very own backyard....
When the old, disgusting sofa (which was sitting on the back porch on its way to the dump) is more fun to climb on....
Why sleep in your comfy, cozy bed....
When you can sleep on the floor with your head propped against the gate, which is covered in dirty handprints to the point where you can barely see through it anymore...
Kids.....one of life's biggest mysteries.

Oh gosh! You are so right. But generation after generation of parents still buy those toys, etc. We'll never learn:)
I know what you mean! My daughter told me to get her boxes, wrapping paper, and bubble wrap for Christmas this year, and she was serious. To heck with video games or Barbies. And she was serious!!
LOL! Kids are so weird, aren't they?
That's why we love them...
Ah yes...gotta love it. ;)
Kids! It's amazing what they think is fun. Mine will play with a new toy for 5 minutes, but they could play with my pots and pans for hours.
Great photos... I'm sure they will get a kick out them when they are older.
Ha Ha, how true is that.
bwahahahaha! Great post, Helene - very creative and so very, very true!
And.....guess what? You ready for this? We had the EXACT same couch!! Except mine looked a whole lot, um greyer by the time we through it out! lol
I know what you mean. great post.
thanks for following me.
We could start up a band my little one loves to play the vents also.
too funny! my parents use to invent "games" that helped them with their house work. after my dad would mow the yard my sister and i loved to play noah's ark and gather up all the grass clippings to feed the animals.
creative, smart people my parents.
Sounds about right...
Ahhhh the joys of children! I get it and live it!!
Now I'm craving mac & cheese. But not styrofoam.
I'm visiting all (eventually) the Moxie gals...saying hi...introducing myself...
HI! I'm Lula. Your family is gorgeous.
Yep. Kids are weird. My baby would eat nasty stuff off her feat, yet won't touch her chicken casserole at dinner time! Go figure.
Why? Because they can...and people think it's cute and funny and take their pictures. Now, if I did any of those things, I think my family would commit me to an asylum. Granted, I'm not interested in styrofoam for lunch or anything, so don't get me wrong...:-)
LOL! I love the last picture of him sleeping propped against the gate. I remember when we first put the gate up in my daughter's room and she'd fall asleep right at the door.
I don't even know why parents even buy toys!
So true!! We are moving and not even buying a playset...just a tire swing!!
Ah kids!
Which one is that sleeping by the baby gate? That picture was too cute!
So true, totally a mystery.
Ha ha! You're kids look...well, normal!! :) I decided when we finally adopt we aren't going to buy many toys, kids always find something else to play with anyway!
Just poppin' in from SITS, have a great day!! :)
Its like when they throw away the toy and play with the box.

love it!
LMBO!!! It's all so true! That is so cute of your baby boy sleeping next to the gate!
Hilarious and so true! Love the photos. Your kids are so adorable.
Awwww, Kids are something else. I have always said our kids will never miss the expensive toys... they have more fun with my plastic mixing bowls and mixing spoons than they do with some of the toys we got for them.
I also put some plastic baby spoons in clear plastic containers with lids on them, and they walk around shaking and rattling them like they are the most exciting toys they could ever imagine. Not to mention when I open the tops and let them shake the spoons out on the floor! That is really over-the-top! LOL!
LOL!!! Hilarious! I'm so glad we didn't spring for the expensive swingset! We got the cheap Walmart on sale $200 one :) they do spend more time messing around with everything else in the yard! :)
Love this - why didn't I think of it? Very cute idea and SO TRUE!
haha, I love this! It is so true. I'm thinking of giving my kids boxes for Christmas this year. Maybe I'll wrap them.
You have a beautiful family. I have really enjoyed your blog. I love all the pics. Have a great day. Blessings,
Truly a mystery. And yet if they didn't have those nice things, they would probably cry about how deprived they are. :)
It never ceases to amaze me why kids do what they do. I think if I could figure that I out I would be a millionaire.
That was great! My kids do similar things. I loved your photos.
Does it make me a horrible mother when I admit that I can't wait for my son to start falling asleep in awkward places/positions, too, so I can take pictures of it and post it on my blog like you? ROTFLMBO!!!
heh heh I love this post. I LOVE YORU KIDS.. each morning I sign on waiting for my daily dose of the kids. LOL
Hows that fire in N. Cali?
Ours won't be contained until the 15 of Sept! I can barely breathe now.. can you imagine..geeeez
Until the end of time...it is so.
Loved it!
Yeah, why do we bother? LOL! Very cute post. :)
This is perfect. It describes my son Oliver exactly. I have actually watched him refuse to eat a noodle and then said to my husband, "yet he'll eat styrofoam..." Hilarious.
So true.
I should've kept all the packaging materials instead of the toys. *sigh*
I broke my arm jumping on the bed as a child!!! And pulled my arm out of the socket on the swing set.
Cute pics of the kids!! I am sure they are not as clumsy as me.
OMG, that mac and cheese looks FAB. Are those crutons!? Give me the mac and cheese, I'll eat it while your kids are munching on packing peanuts.

I missed ya'll! But now I'm back in the blog world.
LOL..so true!! Good ones!!!!
This is SO true.
My daughter eats the grossest things and I'm all, "But, um, we have chocolate in the cupboard. Stop eating grass.."
Why my daughter does the things she does is a big mystery. Was I this crazy? :)I don't think so.
I know!
I have the answer!
"Because".
What a classic post - epic memories are made of this!
How true!! What a cute post!!
Can totally relate here! I love that right after xmas my son will play with the giant cartons things came in, while the new "swag" lays there unplayed with!
I love how you take the every day and make it into so much more!
Helene, you are brilliant!
LOVE IT!
Thank you so much for the laugh! I really needed that today. Cute post as usual.
Why not? Toys are overrated, anyway!
LOL! Kids are crazy and strange at the same time!
So funny! Loved this!!!
LOL, yup kids are strange! I bought Carson one of those playdoh sets yesterday. I know, what was I thinking? It makes ice cream sundaes and cones. Is he playing with it today? No, he is having much more fun with a laundry basket.
Stopping by from SITS to say hi! Your kids are adorable. I agree, kids are just silly, there's no accounting for their thought processes!
Cute post Helene! Mac&cheese made me feel hungry :-)
Aawww. They look like they are just having a blast in some of these photos. I love the silly things kids do - my twins love jumping on the sofa and taking off the pillows. Drives me crazy, but sometimes I just watch and enjoy the show.
Hi! Popping over from SITS roll call from earlier today to visit.
Isn't that the way it always goes? Forget the toy, the love the box better LOL! Well, not today because every dang toy I open has so many security features that the entire box is ripped to shreds by the time I'm done with it!
You have a beautiful family. two sets of twins huh? You do indeed have a handful don't you?
Have a happy Thursday!
Laughing so hard I almost woke up firehubby.
Why? All good questions. LOL!
SO true. This is why I stopped buying toys. Biggest waste of money ever!
That's the hardest thing about kids, you can never quite figure them out. It's also the best things about kids, too! I hope I can always see the fun in an old sofa or an air vent.
The simple answer? Because they can.
