How to get what you really want for Christmas....

It doesn't involve writing a detailed list and leaving it in a convenient spot for your spouse to "find", you don't have to e-mail a link to him showing exactly what it is that you want either.....and you most certainly do not have to keep leaving subtle hints with the hopes that he catches a clue.

It's really not that complicated at all.

Just do what I do....buy it for yourself!

I know, I know...a George Foreman grill is not exactly the most coveted of gifts. Some girls like diamonds and pearls but me?? Any kitchen appliance that makes my life easier is what turns me on.

This way, everyone's happy. I get exactly what I've been wanting (since my birthday last April) and Tim's relieved that he's finally off the hook. It's a win-win.

You know what they say....when Mama ain't happy, ain't no one happy! And this Mama is one happy lady right now.

I love my grill! My mother bought it for us last Christmas and she was all "Are you sure? That doesn't seem like much fun" when she asked me what I wanted.

Fun is being able to throw a couple of chicken breasts on a grill in the middle of winter and call it dinner in less than 15 minutes.

I totally agree with buying your own gifts. After all, then everyone is happy!

Brilliant! I've got to try that this year!

I wanted a grill for Christmas last year and didn't get one. 5 months later my birthday rolled around and I took my birthday money from my parents (how old am I? I sound like I'm 12) and bought one myself.

There are other ways to get what you want as well - it's called make husband happy (you know what I mean) and you get what you want! It's all about negotiation!

Good Plan!

I'm a fan of buying my own gift with hubby. That way, he feels like it was half his idea.

He typically will buy some other small thing too.

I feel the same way. I either show my husband or just get it..

i practically begged my mother to get one for me for my birthday a couple years ago... i LOVE it! best birthday gift i've received in a while!

I am so with you on this one. Both the grill - thought I finally traded my George in for a Griddler and am loving it - and on the buy it yourself. I discovered years ago that it wasn't worth the effort required to smack DH over the head with a 2x4 to get him to get what I wanted not what he thought I "needed." I have been buying my own gifts ever since. I bring them home, stick them on his desk and tell him it better be wrapped by Christmas (he actually enjoys the wrapping and my memory sucks so much at this point I will have totally forgotten about it until I open it - so I really am surprised!) Win - win for everyone.

I did the same thing last night- Got a Victoria Secret Fragrance Set!!

I want one too.

Now I love my husband dearly...he is fantastic in almost every way. He's terrible at gift giving. but i always say thanks.

case in point...i got a suitcase for my birthday. i wanted a photo printer OR a baby carrier like an ergo.

I just bought myself a second coffee grinder. Yes, second. For decaf. Totally unnecessary, but oh, so nice.

I totally want the Big City Slider. And we don't get each other presents. If we want something, we just buy it for ourself. It's lame.

I've bought my own gifts many times. But one year my hubby did it right. I got a new vaccum cleaner - and boy did we need one!

I tell everyone...gift cards please. Doesn't matter where to...just a gift card.

Brilliant plan!

Bianca @southbay rants n raves said...

Agreed. I'm more likely to return odd gifts I get. Gift cards & money, less hassle!

I love my George Forman grill! I have a small one, though. I'd kill for a family-sized unit!

Awesome!! I'm going to have to start doing that!! BTW, that grill is awesome! The only sucky thing is the cleaning part.

I hear that one!! I did the same thing with my blog...I looked at the man and said - you're getting me a new blog design for Christmas...it costs xyz...just letting you know. He agreed and I'm happy!

I wish I could go out and buy my own Christmas presents...but that takes all of the fun out of it for the Hubs and God FORBID I do that!! But yay for you! Merry early Christmas!

I hear you 100%. Husband bought me gifts last year...never again. Somehow a dog water dish, and a plastic serving tray just did not make me happy. Couldn't help it, but the tears starting flowing making him feel like cr*p. I already told him this year that I would buy myself what I want. :)

Merry Christmas to you!!!!

That's what I do! No one else is going to take care of me, I better do it myself!

Buy it yourself usually works for me too.

Sometimes the only way to get things is to get it yourself.

Hey whatever works! LOL Glad you got what you wanted. The grill is the best!

My husband bought his own toy too! Already! Works for me. He's happy.

I am VERY good at this one. VERY good. Sometimes TOO good, but hey, I get what I want, right? To be truthful? My husband does the same with what he wants!

Practical gifts are the best!

And yes, I'm buying my own present this year, too! Mine is a subscription to a meal-planning service.

i've got a foreman and i love it. i use it to grill chicken breasts for those dishes that call for a can of chicken or chicken cubes. its quick, and i save money buying a whole chicken breast rather than one someone has already cooked and cut up for me.

I am with you...kitchen appliances rock my world

I've thought about buying a foreman grill, but my husband does such a good job outside in the snow, rain and hurricanes. Why take that joy away from him?

I think everyone should buy their own gifts or everyone should buy others gift cards. This would be heaven.

Is the GF Grill one of those products that only comes out at mas time, like Chia pets?

That is definitely the best way to get the gift you want. Why do men have such a difficult time shopping?

I haven't used our Foreman grill in ages, you've got me thinking that it might be time to pull it out.

Great idea - enjoy the grill!!

I bought one for myself about a year ago. Second one I've had. Love it, nothing like grilling in the winter or when it's raining.

For Mothers Day, I asked for an orange tree. I'm still waiting. I guess I gotta buy my gifts too!

I am on my second George Foreman grill. I couldn't live without it. I wonder if I bought it for myself?

Jo said...

I love our GF Grill. We are on our third one and we use it every day!

MamaHen Em said...

That's really funny because it is EXACTLY what I do! Currently wrapped under our tree is an empty box that contained a tea pot for myself (but I wanted to use the tea pot early) and a sleeping bag that I purchased for myself on Friday last week! It works out great for everyone concerned!

pk said...

That is so funny - that's kind of how things work here too. Much easier on both of us! :-) Congrats on getting the grill.

Buying it for myself is really my last option. My husband is great at buying me stuff ... just not stuff I'd ever use. So for my last birthday I said charms for my Pandora/Chamila bracelet would be nice and I handed him the catalog with quite a few circled. I put stars by one that said "wife", another with "mom", one with "sister", "daughter", "aunt" ... you get the idea.

I got those along with one that said "son" ... puzzled by that, I asked why I got that one (maybe I had a gender change in my sleep) ... he said "because you have a son too not just daughters" ... I asked if he had ever taken one of those tests where you have to choose which thing doesn't belong ... He asked me if this was one of my trick questions ... ya think?

Hope you enjoy your grill ...

Yes! We buy most of our own gifts, we're past the stage of trying to surprise one another with pointless presents the other person will never use. My husband especially is always looking for very specific tools, most of which I'd never recognize or be able to carry to the car. Kudos on the grill, kitchen appliances always get me a little excited too.

Stopping by from SITS and Im your 800th follower =) I love the George Foreman grill!

You go, girl! I've adopted that policy over and over again. Make sure to use festive wrapping, even if you have to put it back in the box after you've" tested it out to make sure it works." It's always nice to have something to open :)

Myne Whitman said...

Very practical advice. Buy it for yourself, one I would take too. LOL

I love my grill and I agree to buying your own gifts as well. That way you always know that you will get what you want.

How romantic is this....hubby says he REALLY wanted to get me a GPS since I am so easily lost and that is not good with kids. Later I catch the "I am sick of being called in the middle of my damn shift and having to help you get somewhere when you have no gas!"
Sigh. He is right. I get lost going to the mailbox. But couldn't he be a little more romantic?
