Which is more disturbing?

bellacat

Which is more disturbing….the fact that Bella was smart enough to finally figure out a way to reach the cat….this picture just screams out “Emergency Room Visit Waiting to Happen”, doesn’t it?

Or the fact that when I discovered her doing this, I yelled “What are you doing?!  Get down from there right now!  Wait…let  me grab my cell phone so I can take a picture!”

Click….”Okay, now you can get down and don’t YOU ever do that again…unless of course I have another case of writer’s block.”

On a side note, after looking at that picture, it has just occurred to me that the decorative plate above the cabinet is upside down (upper left-hand corner)

…and probably has been for the last 7 years.  And what do you know….the other plates are also upside down!  How is it that I just now noticed this?

plates

Then again, I don’t know why I’m shocked that I had never paid that much attention to it….after all, I was only in the laundry room for maybe 3 minutes (at the most) and I didn’t even realize my daughter was practically clawing her way up the cabinets to get a hold of the cat.

Lord have mercy on me!

hehe - we crazy blogging mums getting our cameras for scary pics! Cracking up at your plates too. Great post.

A true blogger--always looking for good blog material! I do the same thing, well, maybe not to the extent of kids because I don't have any. That is definitely an accident waiting to happen. Poor cat, it must have wanted to be alone to go way up there and still couldn't get any privacy!

The plates look fine to me, I'd just leave them like that for at least another 7 years.

Yaya said...

Lol! Gotta love kids!

Yaya said...

PS Change those plates stat! It's making my OCD kick in!

How is it possible that I'm commenting in the top 10? We're you posting in your sleep?

The poor cat ... she knows her days are numbered now.

Your cabinets DO look like mine ... but, frankly, my family knows that if they want any decoration around our house they better do it themselves ... so they sticker the cabinets ... and I just keep buying more.

As far as taking that photo ... I say, if they are going to do something stupid ... they deserve to have it photographed first ...rescue second.

singedwingangel said...

Ok I would swear your daughter took lessons from my boys.. and perhaps the plates were not as visible the other way from most locations in thehouse so you turned them that way

Rebecca said...

She sure loves that cat, huh? That is S.C.A.R.Y, but I'd probably be the Mom to get the camera too!

Rebecca said...

You should have had your daughter fix the plates while she was up there...as, um, punishment!

Sidnie said...

I saw the photo of her on the counter, and was relieved!!!
At least I'm not the only one with a child who likes to climb on top of things!!!

Did you turn your plates around yet?

Neo said...

once my nephew climbed on top of the bookshelf that's almost ceiling high, i got there b4 he decided to do a superman

the plates look fine to me.

Missy (Two Little Monkeys) said...

Wow, that is some talent! I know what you mean- I am always saying, "Hang on let me take your picture first." Poor Kitty just wanted some peace and quiet, didn't she?

BigSis said...

I love how she got the chair up there too. Kids are so resourceful!

Jen said...

This picture does not shock me. It really is nothing to me. Climbing like that is such a common occurrence in our house that I have given up. And you know what, since the kids do it so often, they have gotten really good. And hardly ever fall. ;)

Alison said...

This is a really cute photo, but yes it's pretty scary! You were brave to stop and take a pic! I usually miss good shots like this because I automatically get after them...I'd say "GET DOWN" before even thinking! I need to start blogging about my kids so maybe then I'll think like a blogger!!

The Girl Next Door Grows Up said...

Oh My Goodness! I love how she put another chair on the counter as well!

As for the plates? I think that no mother looks up - we are always looking down - at our kids - toys, etc!

Jessi said...

I've done that multiple times. Like when my son was eating dog food and I tried to get a picture of him before I told him to stop haha!

Glad there were no ER visits for you with that picture!

HT said...

Mine has not attempted a chair on the counter top yet! A chair on the sofa - Yes! But I'm sure if they had an incentive (like the cat) to go after, that might just change!

Kaleena said...

I've done that too! I catch the kids climbing and freak out, but at the same time, I'm shouting "wait! Don't move, lemme grab my camera!"

Working Mommy said...

Poor kitty...he'll have to find a new hiding spot now!

Your house is always fun.. Have a great weekend.

Corrie Howe said...

LOL, "which is more disturbing?...Wait until I get my cellphone."

She looked like she had everything under control. I'm wondering what the cat is thinking.

"Great! Now I have to find another hiding place now that the kids can get to me here."

Brooke said...

lol!!! i love that the plates are upside down.

my money is on your inlaws helping you move in and put them up there wrong. (okay so i'm a little paranoid about the big move)

Ms Bibi said...

I had visions of her slipping from that little plush chair and falling off, but I think I would ask her to hold on to get my camera too.

Us blogging mom have our priorities, lol

Eva Gallant said...

Love the picture!
My boys used to climb high up in trees when they were little. My Mother would have a fit about it. My attitude was that if I told them not to do it, they'd probably do it anyway, but with one eye watching for me, thereby increasing their chances of falling. So I used to just say "Hang on tight, guys!"

Heather said...

Kids sure do have ways of scaring us to death! I can't believe she thought of that...and so quickly! I wouldn't have noticed the plate had you not said anything ; )

Megan said...

Yikes!! That is one ingenious child you have on your hands there! :-) And the plates are upside down? I couldn't tell even after you pointed it out. I wonder how many things are upside down in my house right now...

Morgan said...

Well, she is pretty creative. : ) Did she manage to get the cat down?

Plates look fine to me.

Side by Side said...

My girls would have found a way to reach our cat (if he was so lucky to have a spot like that) too!
Poor guy...he tries his best to hide here.
Thanks for taking the photo...glad she got down safely.

I love that you grabbed your camera first!

Karen said...

I'm a little disturbed that she thought standing on a squishy chair was a good idea. :-)

Kids!

And the upside plates are pretty funny. I would totally do the same thing.

Nezzy said...

Ya know your a blogger when your child is in danger and you ask her to hold the pose! Heeeheehe!

Now, am I suppose to be seein' a picture of spider~bella and knocked over plates? 'cause all I see is a clean, nicely organized kitchen.

Have a super safe day!!!

Hi! Visiting from SITS...oh, if I had a dollar for every time I found Dally on the cabinets...What else would we write about? Love it!

cindi said...

I think she should be thankful she has a mommy that IF she did fall, said mommy would not step over her to eat chiken nuggets and watch family guy before taking her to ER.
lol have a great day!

Stephanie Manner Wagner said...

It's like a look into my future that I never wanted! LOL

Glad she made it down safely.

My poor tortured dog is very jealous of kitty's climbing abilities btw.

Beverly said...

My son was once in his room yelling "help!"...I went in to find he had climbed ontop his book shelf/toy box and was stuck...oh yeah...it was tipping also...
But what a cute picture!

Tracie said...

My child was doing this at Chuck E Cheese in order to get a particularly sticky Sticky Hand down from the ceiling. Then he put someone on his shoulders. They ended up knocking pieces of the ceiling down.

Kim said...

I'm most disturbed by your clean counters. How do you do that? My kitchen is a disaster.

Samantha said...

Oh my word! I would have died...but I would have said "Hold on lemme take a picture!" too...I didn't notice the plates were upside down until you said something. They don't look bad upside down though.

Twins Squared said...

The chair she's on is the scariest part of the picture! I can just see that slipping right off the counter! But I did the same thing last week - the little girls have figured out how to get on the counter (fortunately they were sitting) but I looked at them, grabbed my camera for them to proudly say "cheese," and then I fussed at them and pulled them down. Can you say mixed signals? But blog or no blog these moments are still great to capture on camera. It is worth all the therapy they will need later. :)

Mayhem and Moxie said...

Your life is awesome, Helene, and I mean that in the best possible way. Only a true blogger grabs her cell phone for the photo op and then scolds her child.

You know that is definitely what I would have done! :)

KK said...

That's great. Isn't if funny how things that used to be painful, annoying, etc now turn into blog material :) I'd have never noticed the plates either!

LMJ said...

LMAO @ your post on the plates!!!

I did that once with a picture. I never knew until I had someone over.

That does look scary, what your daughter is doing. I would have probably run to go get the camera first, as well. LOL!

The High Family said...

I've become the mom who says "WAIT, I need to get a picture!" and then I scold the kids.

My fridge looks just like yours (is that bad? I only have 2 little ones!!) BUT my countertops are NEVER that clean. I envy you. ;)

Pamela said...

Girl it doesn't get much better than this! Did you ever watch Friends? Remember when Rachael said "Isn't that just spit on your neck fantastic?" That's what came to mind when I saw this.

Oh and the plates, leave 'em like that... It gives them character!

Michelle @ Flying Giggles said...

It is amazing what these children do and DO NOT end up in the ER. My friend was just over on Tuesday and we were joking that with my youngest, I need to be showered and dressed to walk out the door at all times because any day now, I am sure we will be at the ER.

I wonder how many other people noticed your upside down plates and didn't say anything..too funny!

LucidLilith said...

Daaaaang! I did think of broken limbs when I say that pic. How do you do it? How do you not get a serious RX for nerves????

Nicolasa said...

haha, wow! She was determined to pet the kitty!

Amy W said...

It would be ironic to have to take your only DAUGHTER to the ER. So glad she didn't fall!!

Mighty M said...

Smart kid.

Smart mommy for getting it on camera, with nobody hurt in the process. I probably would have done the same thing. :)

blueviolet said...

They're upside down because you were trying to be artsy....remember????

Wow she is resoureful and that is a great trait..at least you cought it on film....Woo Hoo..Im more confused about the plates..i think they look correct the way they are..how do you know they are upside down..I think they look great..and in the right direction too...!

Carly said...

I would have ran to get the Camera too! The poor cat thought he found a private place. Not so much in your house with all those kiddies! LOL! Did she get him down?

I so adore you! We have the same taste in canisters. I have the exact same cobalt blue canisters. In fact, that's my favorite color. Ahem...got off topic for a moment.

You can't say she is afraid of heights.

My daughter used to pull stuff like that and the moment I'd tell her she's going to fall, she'd reply, "No I'm not." And, she didn't.

What does the cat have that she wants?

LOL, oh my gosh, I can totally envision what would happen if she fell!!!!!!!!!

ZenMom said...

This looks way too familiar. Only in my house it would be my youngest son. He climbs EVERYTHING. Darn and I forgot the camera.

About the plate, I have so many little things out of place that I look at every day, but always get to sidetracked to change.

WhisperingWriter said...

I'd have taken a picture of it too.

I'm weird that way.

Like I took a picture when my daughter painted our couch with ranch. My husband was all, "Stop taking pictures and help CLEAN UP!"

JoeyRes said...

The extra foam chair must have been just for an added opportunity to slip and fall right off. That is scary resourceful.

Clueless_Mama said...

Hey, looks like she put a lot of thought into that climb. The other day I found something kind of like that too. It scared me half to death! Glad she didn't fall and that you got to have a great post. LOL

mudmama said...

I SO get that--the freak out of what ARE YOU DOING?! With- wait, lemme get a quick picture first- lol! Glad she was a-okay and your writers block was solved ;)
Thanks also for sharing your story about bing and the office visit- there is hope :)

BoufMom9 said...

LOL! I totally knew where you were going with this post after your 1st 4 words. LOL
I am so guilty of finding the kids in the middle of something crazy and telling them to stop....after I take a picture. heehee

ps So, did you flip the plates or leave them upside-down?

tattytiara said...

Okay it's getting late - it took my eyes the better part of a minute to adjust to what they were looking at and realize she was standing on a pink chair, not wearing a giant pink foot cast. Good luck, babe - looks like you got a climber there!

And yes and by all means you can post it on your door - spread the gospel!

Kimberly said...

My kids are so "safety oriented" that they never tried to climb the cabinets. I did it all the time when I was young.

My kids are just now "only getting on the chair"

I think they are both very OCD (like me and my husband...How do they have a chance?)

Semi-Slacker Mom said...

Has she been taking lessons from Baby Girl?

The Depews said...

I would have keeled over right then of a heart attack. I would have never had the piece of mind to go and find the camera, but for our sake I am so glad you did. And to show her when she's exasperated with kids of her own someday. :)

My little guys thank heavens aren't really climbers, yet. If they can't reach it it is "Mama, help!!"

Mrsbear said...

I'd say they're both equally troubling. Also troubling is the fact I would've taken a photo too. ;)

Laura said...

My favorite part is the fact that your kitchen (and fridge!) looks just like mine.

And I didn't even raise an eyebrow at the picture of your resourceful climber. I don't know what it is about having two sets of twins, but it does seem to dial down your sense of concern!

Sharlene said...

I think I am having a heart attack just looking at that picture of Bella!

I figure that if the children are alive when my husband gets home at the end of the day, I've done my job.
