Thanks....I think?

Tim came home from work on Wednesday and, out of the blue, announced, "Hey sweetie, I read your blog today".

Before I could respond, I got down on the floor on my hands and knees to try and locate my eyeballs since they had exploded violently from within their sockets, out of nothing other than pure shock.

You see, and I might have mentioned this before, Tim doesn't read my blog. NEVER. Not in all the 3.5 years I've been writing.

I mean, I've read him a couple posts here and there and of course he's added a few one-liners to some of my more memorable ones.

But, for the most part, he's shown no interest in it. In his own words..."why would I want to read all the crap you write about me?"

Well, first of all, it's NOT crap....second of all, I do it out of love. Or maybe frustration. I get those two emotions confused sometimes.

So back to his reading my blog....once I could pinpoint where my eyeballs had rolled off to and pushed them back into their available sockets, I asked, "You did? Really?"

He responded, "Yeah, I read the post about the one thing you're good at. It came up on my messenger update and the title caught my eye so I decided to read it. I had no idea it was going to be about puke."

"Do you even remember Puke-Fest 2005?" I challenged.

He laughed and said, "Surprisingly, I do!"

Then he added, "I still don't get why you have so many followers. I just don't understand this whole blogging thing. Why would people want to read about a total stranger's daily life activities?"

There was really no simple way to describe it. For someone who doesn't blog and has no interest in it whatsoever, there's no way he could possibly begin to understand my passion and desire for blogging.

I tried my best to explain, "Well, I suppose readers must like what I have to say. People can relate to it, especially other mothers. For some of us, it's our only connection to the outside world for days at a time."

"So," I continued, "are you really saying you have no clue why someone would find my life interesting or entertaining?"

Tim rolled his eyes, clearly frustrated with my attempt to put words in his mouth...even though he had said as much just a few moments ago, hadn't he?

He affirmed, "No, sweetie...actually, I have to say, I was impressed with your writing."

I quickly brought my hands up to my eyes to prevent them from springing free from their sockets once again.

Two huge shocks...first, him reading my blog and second, him being impressed with my writing...in a matter of only a few minutes was more than my poor body was used to.

"Seriously?" I asked, my voice dripping with excitement.

"Yeah," he maintained. "You write really well. I was definitely blown away."

And just as I was about to thank him for the unexpected but much appreciated compliment, he reiterated, "I still don't understand, though, why you have so many followers...."

Yeah, thanks....I think?

Aw, that is funny. Well, he's nothing if HONEST. Hang in there. Next thing you know he will start blogging!

My husband is getting ready to. If he has more followers than me, I will D-I-E.

LOL

Fantastical that he read your blog!!! As for why follow you? As a follower myself- I don't know if there is one good answer, but I follow your blog because you make me laugh and bring a smile to my day :) (and it is really well written)

I used to have total freedom on my blog. My hubby never read it. The kids ignored it.

Now hubby reads and comments. The Goth has started reading and commenting--

which means there is so much stuff that I can't talk about.

Rebecca said...

Holy crap! You DO have a lot of followers...I never realized! Yeah...some people just don't get it. I have to ask Husband to read my blog...when he asks for birthday ideas, I say, "haven't you been reading my blog?" He's starting to get it...a lot of good stuff comes out on the blog (especially b/c I'm too dead-tired most nights to actually engage in conversation with him)!

Jennifer @ The Toy Box Years said...

My husband doesn't read my blog either. I don't know if I should be grateful or offended. LOL!

And why do I follow you? You were one of the first people to write me and comment on my blog when I first started to write. When I came to read your blog, you had just gotten back from your vacation and I just laughed all the way through your post.

And, oh yeah....as a mom, I can related to a lot!

Have a great weekend, friend!

Oh he is sooooooo typical. My husband doesn't get it either and if he read my blog, I think I'd have to put a sock in Menodeb's mouth, he'd freak if he knew how often I make fun of him!

That is so funny. I love how shocked those closest to us can be by something we do ALL THE TIME.

My husband still doesn't read my blog. Everyone in his office reads it and they'll make remarks to him like ... hey, love your dining room chairs (or something) and he'll just stare at them blankly, wondering when they were over our house because he doesn't remember it.

Thats sweet though...I like that it blew him away...watch out now..he might be secretly reading all the time...my hubs looks over my shoulder sometimes..but hes more interested in what Im emailing back and what people are saying...he loves when hes the starring role..sometimes he even tells me things to add about him...usually Im like Um no...

I follow you because it seems that we have a lot of the same thoughts and sense of humor. I look forward to reading your blogs everyday.

I love your blog, hearing about your precious kids & your humor & wit. You crack me up!
Such a great conversation between you and Tim

Jeff read my blog everyday which is nice but mean that I have to watch what I say. I mean I can't say what I really like about him. ;)

I'm really not sure if my husband reads my blog. I think he may stop by once in a while, but nothing consistent. He has his own blog so he gets the whole followers things.

I think if you don't blog, then you don't fully understand it and it's not something that can be easily explained either.

Aweee.. My husband read my blog when I 1st started. He has not read my blog in probably 3 months now. I Wish I knew your secret to so many followers too. I hope to someday make it to 100. I do however think you are a fantastic writer. That MUST have something to do with it:)

Sadia said...

Ah, men.

Lucas recently referred to reading my blog as being like watching a horror movie.

Sadia said...

Oh, and then he suggested that I write a book.

My husband reads my blog. Sometimes he reads 3 or 4 posts at a time, but he reads it. He doesn't understand why I love blogging so much, though.

As for why I follow you??? You are a great writer and it is fun to read about someone else who is going through the same things and can still find the humor in them!! Thank for keeping such a great blog!!

LOL - congrats on him reading your blog...um I think right???

I don't think my hubby reads mine either and I asked him and his reply was, "I already know about what goes on in our life so why would I read it again?"

Um, OK!

The reason I follow you is I found you through another friend I follow and clicked on your button one day and became hooked. You def. have a knack for writing and I enjoy reading about you!

Plus, I'm thankful that you follow me and I love your comments!

My husband hasn't read mine. He's taken a look at it and asked how I learned to make the things for my blog and he always asks about numbers...but then, he asks, "Why do you think you have so many followers?" I don't have as many as you, but I think he would ask that even if I only had 25. LOL

It's hard to "get" blogging unless you do it.

EEEEEK! That's so exciting!!! Does he even realize how happy he made you?!!?

I read your blog because you're the shiznit. And you make me laugh. And you are one of the most genuine people I have ever met in my life.

My mom and Tim should be married-- what with their inability to "get" blogging.

I had a good laugh with this one! My husband actually does read my blog, but he's about the only one in my family or circle of friends who does. I really don't get it. Whenever someone complains about not hearing from me or wants pictures of the kids, my husband snaps, "Why don't you read her BLOG then??" It bothers him more than it does me.

My dad has zero interest. ZERO. It's not like he doesn't use the computer, either—he's quite tech savvy. Once he asked me, "What's it called again? Your Soccer Mom thing?"

My husband won't read my blog either. So sometimes when I write, I have him in mind just hoping he might want to read it.

He's going to secrectly read form now on. :)

My husband reads my blog, but no one else in my family does. I mention it to my parents/siblings occasionally, and they chuckle like they think it's cute.

I read your blog because you write really well and it's funny. But mostly because you aren't afraid to put it all out there, and that helps me know I'm not crazy. :)

Deana said...

I follow your blog, but I dont blog myself. weird? maybe but a friend sent me your link and said you have to follow this blog she is HALARIOUS! And so I started following you sometime last year, and I do get a daily giggle from your posts! I love reading your blog!

kristi said...

I accidentally left my blog up on my laptop one day. My hubby was reading about what I wrote about him and he was a little upset, but then he was laughing too...he totally does not understand blogging either.

Lana@The Kids Did WHAT?! said...

You should make HIS eyeballs pop out of his head and tell him you only have to pay each of your followers $100 each to follow... HA!
And then when he recovers, tell him the REAL reason: It's because you're a GREAt writer, so many of us can relate, you're funny, serious when you have to be, and REAL!

Jenny said...

They always know how to make you feel good then shoot you down just as quickly.

At least he said you are a great writer...that is a wonderful compliment...and you are.

His last words had my peeing in my pants...it's like my hubs. Just when he saved himself being sweet he can't just let it go. Just walk away, man, walk away.

I don't know anybody in my real life that has a blog and only handful of people close to me read my blog. Nobody understands why we do this and why people come over every day to see what's new.

MamaHen Em said...

You ARE a great writer and I follow you because you make me laugh and I love your sarcasm. My hubs doesn't read my blog, either - not even back when I was actually writing daily!

Twins Squared said...

Well, I can tell you why you have so many and it's because your blog is very entertaining! And real at the same time - so not only can people relate but usually get a good laugh most of the time. If you were just doting on your kids all the time and putting their special moments up only, probably not as many would read, but people can relate to you and they love knowing someone else is going through the same stuff! Thanks for sharing it all with us. And he's right, you ARE a great writer!

Angela said...

Because, the Lord knows how much we need a laugh! And some of us aren't as brave as you to put it ALL out there! But we feel so much better when you do! Thanks!

Jenny said...

LOL! You have a lot of followers, because you are hilarious! You and your family are adorable too!

WOW.

Tyler reads mine every morning the nanosecond he gets it in email. He loves it mostly.... but now he feels he needs to buy me an iPad for Mother's Day!

My little plan worked!!!!! Mwa ha ha!!!

Well, I think that's the best story I've heard all day!! It is hard to describe to a non-blogger what the attraction is to read about a total stranger's life. Congrats to you and tell your hubby he rocks!

blueviolet said...

He wouldn't want to go overboard now, would he?

Kim said...

For a while my husband was my only follower (well, not officially... I thought that would look too dorky if he were an actual follower). Now I can't get him to read my blog for the life of me. I was beginning to wonder who I could keep interested if I couldn't even keep my own husband's interest, but this post made me feel so much better!

And I am not surprised at all that you have so many followers. You are extremely easy to relate to and have a very funny way of making us feel strangely normal. So thanks!

givingherallshesgot said...

Hahaha, well if it makes you feel better I thought blogging was the DUMBEST THING EVER and totally made fun of my hubby for wanting to do it for yeeeeears. Now, I have a blog and he still doesn't. And if you haven't noticed, I'm slightly obsessed with it. As in there are usually more posts in a month than there are days.

So maybe there's hope for him yet!

P.S. You are a good writer and I understand why you have followers!

Erin said...

I'm not sure my hubs really gets it either, even after reading some and posting on my blog once himself...

you have so many followers because you are so REAL. you could be my next door neighbor (i wish you were!). you're honest and you tell it like it is and you do write incredibly well. plus, how could anyone not want to read about your life with two sets of twins? it's fascinating, inspiring, and you always make things interesting and funny. tell that to your hubby!

Anna said...

I force my husband to read my blog by following him around the house and reminding him that I posted something new.
I read the most funny parts of yours outloud to him!

Tropical Mum said...

My husband doesn't openly read my blog either, and I am surprised to see so many other women say the same thing about their spouses too. I thought it was just mine.

I know that he is proud of me, because he brags to people we know that I have a blog, but I don't think he gets it. He thinks that I blog about nothing. Picture George Costanza on Seinfeld telling the TV producer that the show is going to be about nothing--and he says "and the guy could be reading a book, there's a show" That's what my hubby thinks I do, blog about nothing.

I know why I read your blog. It is because you are real and most times real funny. You support my blog even though you have so many readers. Don't worry if Tim doesn't 'get it', because we do.

Elizabeth said...

My hubby doesnt read my blog (except when I tell him to) and I agree its hard to "get" the whole bloging thing unless you are (lucky enough) to be part of it. For the record I totally get why you have sooo many followers ;-)

Merri Ann said...

Well, I'm pretty sure you know why I read your blog ... so I won't gush all over you. I don't remember how I originally found you, but I'm sure I've been reading your blog since December of 2008 ... waaayyy before I started my own blog ... and I still look forward to your posts.
