Summer Garden Update….

We’re finally beginning to see the fruits of our labor, literally.

There is no better feeling than simply walking out the backdoor to the garden to pick lettuce for a salad or fresh zucchini to put on the grill with some hamburgers!

Our latest bloom in strawberries…

We’ve got plenty of Early Girl, Cherry and Roma tomatoes but they STILL aren’t ripe!

Zucchini…I’ve heard the flowers are actually edible!

I’m super excited about the watermelon! We have little tiny flower buds forming, though they were too small to capture clearly on the camera.

It’s been so much fun to grow a garden again this summer with the kids.

Even if you don’t have a large space or any space at all, try growing some veggies and/or fruit in containers! There is such a wonderful sense of satisfaction when you can grow your own food!

On a little side note, I managed to sneak away for an entire day with my sister yesterday!! 14 glorious hours spent getting massages at a day spa, shopping and eating in San Francisco and ending the day with finally getting to see Sex and The City 2!

It was SOOOO what I needed!

You see, I’m taking the kids fishing tomorrow...all 4 of them…at the lake…where 40,000 pounds of trout have just been planted. I’ve promised them we will not leave until each of them have caught a fish.

For the love of God, please pray they each catch a fish within the first hour.

Or I may need to beg Tim for another day off at the spa…

For a day at the spa, I'd take them fishing two days in a row! :)

What I would give for a garden... *sigh*

So cool! We have berries coming out of our ears over here, I'm loving it.

Your spa day is making me unbelievably jealous! The pictures are great...I need to get tomato baskets...how do you use them? I'm such a novice.

I'm also jealous of your "vineyard."

What a great garden.

And good for you for a spa day! I could use one right about now.

The garden looks great, love the strawberries, we've never had much success growing them, so I am jealous!

Your day off sounds glorious. So wish I could have joined you.

Have fun today catching fish!

What an awesome day with your sister! So glad you got a break!

Your garden is turning out awesome! We have 2 tomato plants and they look like they are one step from death's door - but we are getting a few yummy tomatoes! I took a pic to include in one of my blogs but we got a new camera and I'm having trouble loading it and we've been superbusy that blogging is not coming as fast this summer! Hope you catch the fish early! Good luck with that! :)

First of all ... awesome garden, Little Miss Martha Stewart!

Second ... I'm totally jealous that you were in San Francisco.

Third ... I'm crossing every appendage I own that you are swamped with fish within thirty minutes of casting your first line.

Your garden looks great! I want to do this with the kids next year.

Your spa day sounds perfect. I'm so jealous. I want a day away. I'd settle for just taking a book and a cooler to the beach ALONE.

Hope you all catch fish QUICKLY!

Great garden.

Enjoy the weekend.

Wow! So jealous! I wish we could grow something, either the deer, rabbits, raccoons, squirrels, chipmunks, turkeys or whatever other wild animal roams into our yard will eat it. *grumbles*

We could try inside but then our cat would eat it - the animals are just against us.

I'm so impressed with your garden! It's been ages since we tried growing anything.

Are you really going to make wine with those grapes?!

WooHoo on getting a day out! My sister and I have been wanting to see SATC2 since before it came out. No babysitter though :(

Your garden looks great!

Good luck at the lake!

Aging Mommy said...

Oh good for you getting your spa day in the city! I hope you enjoyed SATC 2, I just loved it and thought it far better than the original! Hope fishing goes well and no one falls in or any other incidents of that nature :-)

14 hours eh? I'm taking my husband to a hypnotist or something! On another note I want a garden badly, but there is no sun around my house, except the driveway...which is concrete. Don't you hate when somebody presents a completely reasonable idea, and you feel stupid for not figuring it our yourself?? Planters.

Amy W said...

Now that the rains have finally stopped, we're really hoping our garden produces. I think the tomato plants have blight...

Congrats on your girls' day out!!

Mrsbear said...

We grew our own tomatoes last year, nothing near as impressive as your garden, but it was a good feeling...that is until the birds started picking the crap out of them as soon as they'd ripen. Stupid nature.

Good luck with the fishing. My husband took ours last week and almost immediately wanted to put a fish hook through his own eye, he spent the entire time wrestling their lines out of weeds and such. Not exactly the relaxed family time he was expecting. But then again when is any outing with four kids peaceful. He was clearly delusional.

Donna said...

Helene - I believe you left "garden" awhile ago. You are up to full blown "farm" or "orchard" with ALL those plants! And I'm still super jealous! ;-)

Looks great and so glad you had a day "off!"

*LLUVIA* said...

That is so freaking awesome!! I'd like a garden like that!!

Dianna@KennedyAdventures said...

Ok, show off! I'm coming over there to that darn garden!

Seriously, like how BIG is it? Is it all of your back yard, or just a little bit? How are you keeping out the bugs, weeds, etc?

Tiffany said...

Oh my gosh - you have done fabulous!! I love it!! (Slightly jealous - but love it nonetheless!)

Zeemaid said...

see you just new you were going to need that spa day *L*

Love the garden. Am very envious as we haven't been able to get one in this year what with all the yard backyard projects going on.

There's always next year.

I figure that if the children are alive when my husband gets home at the end of the day, I've done my job.
